Check out our test movie below called, "Wilson Goes to the Beach"

Just below is a Stop Motion Clay Animation by students ages 7 to 12. This Summer we are exploring ways to take care of our environment and we began with this little Stop Motion about taking care of our oceans. The main character in our series is a little boy named, Wilson. The children used items such as paper dowels, fabric, modeling clay and sand to create their set. They are beginning to animate with materials that basically they already have around the house. They are using Windows Movies Maker to begin learning the Stop Motion process.

A Bit About Our Arts & Media Instructor, Sheena Garcia

Sheena Garcia is a Philadelphia born painter and filmmaker. Born and reared in the Northern Liberties section of the City. Ms. Garcia studied art and culture at the Bodine High School for International Affairs and then majored in Painting and Art Therapy with a minor interest in the History of Art and Cinema at the University of the Arts. Ms. Garcia continued her independent explorations of art during her travels in Europe and North Africa. During her travels abroad, Ms. Garcia was able to discover her artistic voice through independent study in London England, Madrid Spain, and Lisbon Portugal. In Algiers and Morocco North Africa, Ms. Garcia had the opportunity to explore contemporary textile arts upon her visits to the Moroccan Schools of Art and Textiles in Tangiers. Ms. Garcia’s work has been exhibited regularly with Dizyners Gallery and the Painted Bride in Old City Philadelphia, she has exhibited consistently with Gallery 54 in Soho, New York City. Ms. Garcia is a founding member of the Philadelphia women’s art collective, WOMEN HOLLER! The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News have reviewed Ms. Garcia’s work extensively. The Daily News writes on February 2, 2001: “ Sheena Garcia’s Paintings Lose Nothing in Translation.” Ms. Garcia can also be found in a Guide to Philadelphia’s African American Artists, published by the Philadelphia Daily News, February 2001. Sheena and her paintings have appeared on channel three’s Eye on Philadelphia, show with Beverly Williams on both February 29 and October 17, 2004. Ms Garcia’s work on Children’s room designs appeared in the January/ February 2005, issue of Philadelphia Style Magazine. Philadelphia Weekly Newspaper highlighted the work of Sheena Garcia during their Editor’s Choice, First Friday focus, October 2006. Ms. Garcia is the founder of Evoke Cinema Productions, an independent film studio. She is currently working on several independent film projects and music videos for local, and independent musicians. Under the umbrella of Evoke Cinema, is the Evoke Cinema Classroom. The Evoke Cinema Classroom is an educational outreach program for youth ages 7 to 18. Sheena Garcia has been a Visual Arts educator for over fifteen years. Ms. Garcia currently teaches : Silent Film History, Stop Motion Animation and Painting to students elementary school through high School. Sheena also teaches the Art of Photography and Painting to Senior Citizens.
